In Memoriam: Greg Whittaker

At Parton Law, we remember Greg as more than an exceptional attorney we remember him as a trusted colleague, a steady presence, and a true teammate. He was a Lead Civil Attorney at Parton Law. Greg was respected not only for his legal skill, but for the way he approached his work with integrity, diligence, and a genuine commitment to his clients. He was also an exceptionally effective litigator, known among colleagues for a remarkable run of courtroom success that became the subject of lighthearted jokes about when his “winning streak” might finally end.

On January 30, 2022, Greg’s life was cut short far too soon at the age of 31. While his time with us was brief, his impact was lasting.

Greg was born on July 16, 1990, in Fairfax, Virginia. From an early age, he stood tall in both stature and character. Known as a “gentle giant,” Greg was a protector by instinct and a champion of the underdog.

A gifted athlete, Greg graduated from W.T. Woodson High School in 2008, where he was named Senior Athlete of the Year and excelled in baseball, basketball, and golf. He carried that same determination and humility to Drake University, where he walked on to the Division I basketball team. Greg valued the discipline and teamwork that sports instilled, but most of all, he cherished the lifelong friendships they created. He graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and a minor in Philosophy.

During a semester abroad in South Africa, Greg’s sense of purpose deepened, inspiring him to pursue a legal career dedicated to serving others. At Drake Law School, he distinguished himself in trial advocacy, contributing to multiple Mock Trial and Arbitration victories before earning his Juris Doctor in 2016.

Greg moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, later that year, where he was admitted to practice in both state and federal courts. He quickly built a reputation as a thoughtful, prepared, and principled advocate. In the courtroom, Greg brought a rare combination of presence and precision—his physical stature made an immediate impression, but it was his composure, preparation, and measured delivery that made him truly formidable. He understood the weight of his presence and used it effectively, never to overshadow others, but to advocate with clarity and control. Colleagues often remarked on how compelling he was to watch in court an imposing figure who carried himself with both strength and finesse.

Outside the office, Greg embraced life fully. He was a devoted dog owner to his Australian Shepherd, Kingman; a loyal friend who brought people together over good food and conversation; and an avid outdoorsman who found joy in mountain biking, hiking, and camping throughout North Carolina.

We honor Greg’s memory by carrying forward the qualities he exemplified every day integrity, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to standing up for others. He will always remain a part of the Parton Law family.
