Parton Parkinson’s Project Hosts Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament at Verdict Ridge

June 2, Denver, NC — The Parton Parkinson’s Project held its first-ever charity golf event at Verdict Ridge Golf and Country Club, welcoming 92 enthusiastic golfers to the scenic course in support of a powerful cause. With net proceeds benefiting the Parkinson’s Foundation Carolina Chapter, the tournament marked a strong beginning for the newly-launched nonprofit.

While the total amount raised is still being finalized, the impact of the day is already clear: community members, sponsors, and players united to raise vital funds and awareness for those living with Parkinson’s disease in North and South Carolina.

“This was more than just a day on the golf course,” said Corey Parton, president of the Parton Parkinson’s Project. “We’re incredibly grateful to our sponsors and every golfer who joined us. Thanks to their support, we raised more than $7,000 to benefit the Parkinson’s Foundation and help improve the lives of individuals and families living with Parkinson’s across North and South Carolina.”

According to Kim Gamble, Parkinson’s Foundation Carolinas Chapter Board president, there are 10 million people living with Parkinson’s disease worldwide, 1 million in the United States and 54,000 in North and South Carolina. Every six minutes someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, she said.

“It is through community partners like the Parton Parkinson’s Project, we work together to build relationships to support our local PD community and beyond,” said Gamble.

The Carolinas Chapter supports this mission and the PD community with annual educational symposiums, lunch & learns, free educational books, webinars, podcasts and a helpline staffed with a Parkinson’s specialist to answer each call. They also provide free genetic testing to all people living with PD as well as community grants to help fund education, outreach programs and local research initiatives.

The success of the inaugural event was made possible by the generosity of our sponsors, including Title Sponsor Truist Wealth, along with Microsoft, MongoDB, Fisher Phillips, Loan Pronto, Operation Helo, Parton Law, Ernst & Young, First Citizens Bank, Sperry Hatley Law, Merrill Lynch, David Hahl and David Byrnes, CPAs, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

With hopes to make the charity golf tournament an annual tradition, the Parton Parkinson’s Project has set the tone for a future of meaningful community events centered around giving, connection, and contributing to a future without Parkinson’s.

The Parton Parkinson’s Project is a Charlotte-based 501(c)(3) dedicated to improving lives affected by Parkinson’s by hosting charitable events that support nonprofits advancing awareness, research, and resources to empower those living with the disease and progress toward a cure.
